Objectives of the Project:
In Nepal 79.3% of women and 44,3% of men are illiterate and there are still a lot of parents who do not send their children to school. A large amount of children will experience a deficient elementary school education due to a continuing use of old fashioned educational methods and a lack of modern educational tools.

Basic education and literacy:
The school system in Nepal is undeveloped, in terms of helping, strengthening and motivating the individual child. Many teachers use rute learning as a method of teaching, which proofs that the system is based on the assumption that all the students are a homogenius group with the same level of knowledge and learning ability, which is not the case.
By introducing the laptop education the Nepalese educational system will be able to teach in a new and gound breaking way.
This tool will enable the teachers to educate the individual student at a level customized to this particular child.
Based on similar project we know that using laptops creates an educational environment where students engage and take responsibility.

Economic and community development:
In Nepal there is a huge demand for education of women in basic skills, such as reading, arithmetic, hygiene and nutrition. In the municipality of Kathmandu ( City area) women already meet up to learn about these topics, but the people in the rural area ( in the proposed project area) they still have a lot to learn. However, the women and are very eager to improve their skills in order to be better both their everyday life and their work situation.

The beneficiaries are:
Sagun Primary School, Gorkha – 120 Students 7 Teachers Head Master: Hom Bahadur
Bag Bhairab Primary School – Gorkha, 65 Students, 6 Teachers, Head Master Man Bahadur Shrestha
Chunadevi Secondary School- Nagarkot, Bhaktapur- 157 Students, 18 Teachers, Head Mistress Nanu Maiya Giri.

Women group:
The women group will be educated by the same teachers as the schoolstudents. The women do already meet regularly and now they get the possibility to be educated in topics of interesest and necessity by professional educators and with modern teaching methods.
Both the villages in Gorkha have women groups ( AAMA SAMUHA) and Sisters Group (Didi Bahini Samuha). There will be about 25-30 women in both the community of Gorkha ( living around the school- Say Mothers of the students) will be getting this opportunity to learn Basic computer knowledge, E-mail Internet facilities so that they can communicate with their better halves ( Husbands/Wives) who are away from home. Not only this, they also could learn basic useful tips on vegetable farming, poultry, animal husbandry, tunnel technology in the farm etc which will help them to use the new technique while doing these works back home by the use of internet.
Teaching/Training to the women group in Nagarkot Bhaktapur is not in our plan and the project does not cover their activities.

Choice of computer
An examination of the marked for laptops was done early in the project. Lenovo, Asus and the green computer was compared.
The green laptops are found to be much more durable and suitable for children’s learning than other laptops. The machine was designed to be used in rugged conditions, and some schools in remote parts of Nepal have been using them for 5-6 years. At this point, there is no comparable computer at the same price range ($250). In addition to the durability, the laptop is power efficient, and the system comes with many learning tools for children. And since the laptop is unique, it is not easy for someone steal and sell in the market. The laptop is bought directly from the producer and no costly intermediaries are involved.
The aim in this project is not to teach children to use tools such as Microsoft Office, but to use the laptops to help the schoolchildren and women to explore, learn, experiment and express. The laptop has proven thes quality for many years and is a valuable tool in the education. Other rotarians have already launched projects with the green computer for example RC Plymouth UD and RC Lalipur Mid-Town – project in Gorkha – as a Global Grand project.
