Kalikot, 1 November 2025 – A newly built girls’ toilet facility has been completed and officially handed over to Shree Tila Secondary School in Mahawai Rural Municipality-2, Gairakhada, Kalikot, enhancing sanitation and safety for more than 464 students. The project was carried out by the Rotary Club of Kathmandu with support from partner clubs in Australia, including the Rotary Club of Bordertown and RAWCS.
School leaders and community representatives expressed their sincere gratitude during the handover program, emphasizing that dependable sanitation facilities are vital for ensuring a dignified, healthy, and supportive learning environment-particularly for girls.
The newly constructed menstrual-friendly toilets are designed to offer privacy, improved hygiene, and comfort, especially during students’ periods. With the availability of proper facilities, the school expects a notable rise in attendance among girls, many of whom previously missed classes due to inadequate sanitation.
Upgrading WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) infrastructure remains essential for rural schools, as it plays a direct role in improving student well-being, reducing absenteeism, and supporting better academic performance. This initiative aligns with Rotary’s Areas of Focus and reinforces Rotary’s ongoing commitment to healthier, more inclusive education systems. The partnership between local and international Rotary members demonstrates the positive impact of global collaboration in uplifting rural communities and empowering young learners.
