25 August, 2025: Gulmi – A new girls’ toilet facility has been completed and officially handed over at Shree Gwagha Secondary School in Chandrakot Rural Municipality–5, Gwagha, providing improved sanitation and comfort for more than 350 students. The project, implemented by the Rotary Club of Kathmandu with support from Rotary Clubs worldwide, marks a significant step in upgrading school infrastructure in this rural community.
The handover ceremony was led by President Rtn. Rajendra Gautam of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu, accompanied by First Lady Samikshya Khanal. Members of the Rotaract Club were also present, including Vice President Rtr. Rabindra Karki and Service Project Chair Rtr. Smriti Sapkota, who contributed to the project’s successful completion. School officials and community representatives expressed appreciation, emphasizing the importance of such facilities in ensuring a safe and dignified learning environment for girls.
Proper sanitation in rural schools plays a critical role in improving student health, attendance, and overall academic performance. In particular, menstrual-friendly toilets help reduce absenteeism among girls, who often miss classes due to a lack of privacy and hygienic facilities. The initiative aligns with Rotary’s Areas of Focus, specifically Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), underscoring Rotary’s long-term commitment to creating healthier, more inclusive educational spaces. The collaboration between local and international Rotary partners highlights the power of global support in uplifting rural communities and empowering young learners.
