The Rotary Club of Kathmandu proudly exchanged club flags with fellow Rotarians from the UAE, Germany, and India during the Rotary Year 2025–26. This gesture symbolizes the spirit of international friendship and Rotary’s commitment to global fellowship and mutual understanding.
Flag exchange is a long-standing Rotary tradition that fosters goodwill, strengthens connections between clubs across borders, and promotes cultural exchange. It serves as a meaningful token of Rotary’s global unity and shared mission of service above self.
1. Flag Exchange Ceremony: Malaysia
On 2nd July 2025, a flag exchange ceremony was held at Rotary Bhawan, Thapathali, with PAG Alice Teoh, Assistant Governor and Past President of the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The event was graced by the presence of President Rtn. Rajendra Gautam, Past President Rtn. Achut Babu Ojha, Immediate Past President Rtn. Sushil Kumar Karki, Secretary Rtn. Pravin Karki, and Executive Secretary Rtn. SK Dahal. Such flag exchanges serve as a symbol of fellowship and play a vital role in fostering international relations and cooperation among Rotary clubs across the globe.
2. Flag Exchange Ceremony: UAE
On 11th July 2025, a meaningful Flag Exchange Ceremony was held at Rotary Bhawan, Thapathali between President Rtn. Rajendra Gautam and Rtn. Dr. Nermine Doclinia, Board Member of the Rotary Club of Jumeirah, RID 2452, Dubai – a vibrant and diverse club known for upholding the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”, operating under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
3. Flag Exchange Ceremony: Germany
On 14th July 2025, a meaningful Flag Exchange Ceremony took place at Rotary Bhawan, Thapathali between President Rtn. Rajendra Gautam and Rtn. Dev R. Maggo, Past President of the Rotary Club of Frankfurt, Germany-a vibrant and diverse club dedicated to the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.” We also had insightful discussions focused on collaborating for future grassroots-level projects in Nepal. Flag exchanges stand as symbols of global fellowship, fostering stronger international ties and encouraging collaboration among Rotary clubs worldwide.
4. Flag Exchange Ceremony: Australia, Switzerland and Netherlands
Rotary Club of Kathmandu organised meeting and flag exchange on 24 Oct, 2025 with:
• Dr. Luis Huanca, member of the Rotary Club of Lausanne, Switzerland
• Myrte van Bon, President of the Rotary Club Het Eiland Schiermonnikoog, Netherlands
• Bipan Adhikari, District International Service Chair (2025–2026), Rotary International District 9790, Australia.
The exchange of club flags is a cherished Rotary tradition that symbolizes friendship, goodwill, and the shared commitment to “Service Above Self” across borders.
